It's Boil-Up Time!
To celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, the Senior Kapa Haka group got
together to have a 'Boil-Up' which included pork bones, watercress, and
vegetables.
After lunch on Wednesday, we went and visited the place where you would
usually be able collect watercress. Unfortunately, the recent snow dump ensured we were not going to get any from that patch so we had 24 bunches sent in from Otautahi.
We met at school on Thursday at
8.00am in the kitchen to start preparing the food for our lunch. We
prepared the pork bones and got them boiling first. Matua Paul explained about the various knives a butcher would use when cutting up an animal.
We peeled the
potatoes, kumara, pumpkin, cut ithem up and put them all in together with the watercress
. As the Junior Kapa Haka missed out on the boil-up, we made Māori
bread while we were waiting for the boil-up and shared it with them
during their Kapa Haka time after lunch. We put strawberry jam,
vegemite and golden syrup on the bread.
We would like to thank Whaea Barb, Whaea Nicky and Matua Paul for all their help. We couldn't have done it without them.

have Rippa on this day but they can join in on Thursday.
If there is anyone who would be able to transport kids to and from the end of Rutherford Road, we would be very grateful.
Do not hesitate to email me should you require further information.
Finally

students had a fabulous day on Friday. I have video footage of their

A Brilliant Day With OGHS!
The day began at 8am to prepare for the mihi whakatau at 9.15am. Fortunately for the roopu, Whaea Barb and Matua Paul brought along their new stamps for our facial moko. They were stunning.
Thank you to Alan and Paul for their whaikorero during the mihi whakatau. It is so amazing to hear our staff speaking in te reo Māori confidently.
Thank you to our parents for their kind contribution for the shared morning tea and lunch. Our visitors were very impressed.
Anyone who has ever been involved with a Kapa Haka group will know it takes more than a couple of tutors to be successful so we would like to thank Bridgitte Jones, Mandy O'Dea, Nicki Patelesio, Whaea Barb and Matua Paul for their assistance in making today a success in the kitchen and with costumes.
Thank you to Sonya and her very talented girls of Otago Girls High School. Our students thoroughly enjoyed their time and learned so much.
Finally, a BIG thank you to Erin Sefo for initiating this visit. Well done everyone.
