NAU MAI HOKI MAI KI A KOUTOU!

Welcome back everyone!

We have an exciting year ahead and  hopefully with two new tutors to add to our roopu!  They come with the most amazing skills to share with you all and whānau if you would like to come along.  You would be most welcome.  Nau mai haere mai koutou!

Throughout the year we may need to organise extra rehearsals but you will be given lots of warning before that happens.  We are hoping to put in at least one group if not both into the Ngā Putangitangi competitions at the end of the year.  Preparations for this competition will require assistance from whānau so your tautoko(support) would be greatly appreciated when the time arises.

It was so lovely to see many of our students last Rāpare registering their names to join the two Kapa Haka ngā roopu nei tau.  Kia ora!

Rehearsals will be at the following times every Rāpare(unless you are advised otherwise):

1:30 - 2:15  Junior Kapa Haka
2:15 - 3:00  Senior Kapa Haka

Nā Whāea Neill, Whāea Sefo, Whāea Barbs and Matua Paora

Here are the names of the students for the Junior and Senior Kapa Haka Roopu this year:

It's Boil-Up Time!

To celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, the Senior Kapa Haka group got together to have a 'Boil-Up' which included pork bones, watercress, and vegetables.

After lunch on Wednesday, we went and visited the place where you would usually be able collect watercress. Unfortunately, the recent snow dump ensured we were not going to get any from that patch so we had 24 bunches sent in from Otautahi.

We met at school on Thursday at 8.00am in the kitchen to start preparing the food for our lunch.  We prepared the pork bones and got them boiling first.  Matua Paul explained about the various knives a butcher would use when cutting up an animal.

We peeled the potatoes, kumara, pumpkin, cut ithem up and put them all in together with the watercress .  As the Junior Kapa Haka missed out on the boil-up, we made Māori bread while we were waiting for the boil-up and shared it with them during their Kapa Haka time after lunch.  We put strawberry jam, vegemite and golden syrup on the bread.

We would like to thank Whaea Barb, Whaea Nicky and Matua Paul for all their help.  We couldn't have done it without them.
