It's Boil-Up Time!

To celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, the Senior Kapa Haka group got together to have a 'Boil-Up' which included pork bones, watercress, and vegetables.

After lunch on Wednesday, we went and visited the place where you would usually be able collect watercress. Unfortunately, the recent snow dump ensured we were not going to get any from that patch so we had 24 bunches sent in from Otautahi.

We met at school on Thursday at 8.00am in the kitchen to start preparing the food for our lunch.  We prepared the pork bones and got them boiling first.  Matua Paul explained about the various knives a butcher would use when cutting up an animal.

We peeled the potatoes, kumara, pumpkin, cut ithem up and put them all in together with the watercress .  As the Junior Kapa Haka missed out on the boil-up, we made Māori bread while we were waiting for the boil-up and shared it with them during their Kapa Haka time after lunch.  We put strawberry jam, vegemite and golden syrup on the bread.

We would like to thank Whaea Barb, Whaea Nicky and Matua Paul for all their help.  We couldn't have done it without them.
